Ayran (Turkey)


This is the easiest recipe I have, and also the one I'm the most frightened to try myself.  It's a salty, sour, iced yogurt drink from central Turkey.  Supposedly, it goes very nice with roasted meats, but as I said, I haven't tried it yet.  Perhaps you will!  If you do, drop me a line to let me know your experience!


Serves 2



  • 300 ml (1/25 cups) yogurt, preferably natural, definitely unsweetened

  • 250 ml (1 cup) ice cold water

  • salt, around 1/4 tsp (1.5 ml)



  1. Add ingredients to a blender. 

  2. Blend. 

  3. Add additional salt, if needed. 

  4. Drink.
